Dora Benley wore hats so large you could barely make out the heiress’s face. I chose a photo of the Georgian Restaurant at Harrods’ Department Store in London in 1915 to illustrate my point. The ladies in the picture donned headdresses so elaborate your eyes are drawn to that and almost nothing else about their appearances. One woman is wearing a gold hat with red silk.
